Start the quest and search Caine's hut
Speak with Cor Kalom in the Swamp Camp to begin The Lost Apprentice. The first clues remain inside the camp, so do not leave for the mine until the journal points you there.
Ask the Templar outside
After leaving Cor Kalom's laboratory, speak with the nearby Templar for the first direction toward Caine's sleeping area.
Speak with Nyras
Find Nyras near the lower huts and ask about Caine. He confirms which hut belongs to the missing apprentice.

Walk past the seated smoker to the hut at the back-right of the area. Pick up the unusual artwork or clue lying among the paintings, then return to Nyras.

Return toward the starting area
Travel back past the Old Camp, cross the bridge, and climb the path toward the opening area. The mine entrance sits along the elevated route above the early descent.
Convince the guard to let you in
Tell the guard you are investigating and connect the search to Raven when the dialogue option appears. He gives you access to the mine.
Open the flooded gate
The mine route includes crouching passages, rails, water, and a gate operated by a mechanism hidden below the surface. Bring healing supplies and save before long dives.
Reach the large underground lake
Follow the mine path over the rail line, deal with the nearby creature, and enter the large open cavern filled with water.
Dive for the glowing mechanism
Swim down toward the blue glow on the lake floor and collect the mechanism. Surface immediately afterward so the next climb starts with a full breath meter.
Climb and activate the gate

Do not attempt to clear multiple submerged sections on one breath. Refill at each chamber and save on dry land when the game allows it.
Swim against the current
The correct direction repeatedly takes you against the water flow. If the current carries you easily, you may be travelling back toward an earlier chamber.
Use the caged tunnel as a landmark
Continue through the caged underwater passage and emerge near another waterfall. This confirms that you are approaching the final mine area.
Find Caine and finish the quest
Heal and make a manual save after reaching the final dry section. A dangerous enemy blocks the last approach, so do not enter the fight with an empty health bar.
