How to Join the Swamp Camp in Gothic 1 Remake
Reach the Brotherhood safely, earn four Guru approvals, and understand which Sleep spell, worker, harvest, and recruitment tasks belong to each route.
Quick Answer
Travel with Baal Parvez, then earn four of five Guru approvals: impress Baal Namib with Lester, help Baal Orun, demonstrate Sleep for Baal Cadar, recruit Dusty for Baal Tondral, or use Baal Tyon's optional route.
- Approval needed
- Four of five Gurus
- Safe escort
- Baal Parvez
- Important spell
- Sleep
- Optional route
- Baal Tyon
Reach the Swamp Camp
The road is dangerous for a new character. Baal Parvez can escort you from the Old Camp area and is safer than trying to fight every animal along the route.
Ask Baal Parvez for an escort
Speak with Baal Parvez around the Old Camp and ask about the Brotherhood. Follow him closely, avoid pulling extra enemies, and let the escort establish the route.
Meet Lester at the entrance
Lester introduces the camp and helps begin Baal Namib's approval route. His dialogue is also the safest way to understand what the Guru wants to witness.
Plan four approvals
You need four Guru approvals, not every possible route. Complete the straightforward camp tasks first and use Baal Tyon only if you already followed Baal Kagan's New Camp work.
Earn Baal Namib and Baal Orun's approval
These routes establish the Brotherhood's persuasion and labor systems. Listen to Lester before speaking for yourself, and finish each worker task through the full return dialogue.
Impress Baal Namib
Coordinate with Lester and use the Sleep demonstration when prompted. When Namib questions your motives, choose answers that respect the Brotherhood instead of mocking its beliefs.
Resolve Ghorim and Harlok's work problem
Baal Orun's chain involves the exhausted worker Ghorim and the missing relief worker Harlok. Find Harlok, resolve the refusal, and make sure the shift actually changes.
Finish the swampweed harvest chain
Continue Orun's work through the swampweed harvest contacts, including Balor and Viran, then deliver the completed result through the camp's Cor Kalom route before returning for approval.
Earn Baal Cadar and Baal Tondral's approval
One route demonstrates magic in front of students; the other brings a new recruit into the Brotherhood. Both require using the correct quest context rather than attacking the Guru.
Get the Sleep scroll
Baal Orun's work provides the Sleep scroll needed for Baal Cadar's lesson. Keep it instead of selling or wasting it on a random target.
Use Sleep during Baal Cadar's lesson
Cast Sleep on one of the listening students when the lesson creates the opportunity. Speak with Cadar afterward so the demonstration is recognized.
Recruit Dusty for Baal Tondral
Follow the New Souls for the Brotherhood route through Melvin and Dusty in the Old Camp. Escort Dusty to the Swamp Camp and report the successful recruitment to Tondral.
Use the optional Baal Tyon route and join
Baal Tyon is the optional fifth approval. It is useful when your New Camp swampweed work already connected you with Baal Kagan and the special Dreamcall item.
Complete Baal Kagan's related work
Baal Kagan operates around the New Camp. His swampweed task can lead to the special joint needed to trigger Tyon's vision route.
Give Baal Tyon the special Dreamcall
Use the quest-specific Dreamcall item rather than an ordinary joint. The vision earns Tyon's approval and can replace one of the other Guru routes.
Confirm Brotherhood admission
After four approvals are recorded, follow the admission dialogue and accept the Novice path. This faction commitment closes Old Camp and New Camp admission for the playthrough.
FAQ
How many Guru approvals are needed to join the Swamp Camp?
You need four of the five available Guru approvals. The admission route can be completed through Baal Namib, Baal Orun, Baal Cadar, Baal Tondral, and the optional Baal Tyon path.
Which tasks earn Swamp Camp approval?
The main tasks involve impressing Baal Namib, helping Baal Orun's workers and harvest, demonstrating Sleep magic for Baal Cadar, and recruiting Dusty for Baal Tondral.
Is Baal Tyon's approval required?
No. Baal Tyon provides an optional fifth route connected to Baal Kagan and a special Dreamcall joint. Four Guru approvals are enough to continue the normal admission path.
Can I join more than one camp?
No. You can work around all three camps before committing, but accepting a final faction invitation prevents joining the other camps in the same playthrough.
